SPE Economics and Evaluation Award
Robert Caldwell, Partner at The Scotia Group, Inc. (Scotia), has received SPE's Economics and Evaluation Award for 2000 and will be recognized at the Awards Banquet of the SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition in Dallas on October 2nd. Robert is recognized for his contributions that have "helped change the oil and gas industry." His work with Scotia involves reserves and reservoir analysis, database development, and the company's strategic studies business. Robert earned BS and PhD degrees in geology and held positions with Gaffney Cline, Core Laboratories and West Australian Petroleum prior to co-founding Scotia with Dave Heather in 1981. He has authored more than 20 technical papers.
Scotia continues work with four multi-disciplinary teams on a recently signed two-year contract as the Burgos Basin Subsurface Advisor for PEMEX. In addition, Scotia has recently completed an integrated field development study for PEMEX which identified sufficient recoverable gas from infill locations to replace previous reserves. Field production is expected to more than double over the next three years with an active infill drilling program based on Scotia's study.
RESWIZ Used in Recent South Texas Tight-Gas Sand Study
Scotia's proprietary RESWIZ has recently been used for a client to analyze well spacing and production statistics for Lobo producing fields in several counties of south Texas. RESWIZ, a software/database package, which has been continually developed and upgraded over the past ten years, may be used in a variety of applications ranging from upside evaluation for oil and gas field acquisitions to competitor analysis and proactive play evaluation. RESWIZ allows for quantification of reserves growth in terms of both volumes involved, their rates of development and relative economics.
Scotia continues to increase its client base in the Houston area with the recent addition of Petrobras America, Inc.
Kazakhstan continues to be an active work area. Scotia will kick off a new multi-year development program this month, assisting the operator of a very large producing oil field adjacent to the Caspian Sea.
