Exploration Analysis

Falling prices and the flight of investment capital from oil and gas ventures have created the need for all upstream oil companies to critically review their exploration strategies. Mindful of this need, we have developed comprehensive procedures to analyze exploration plays within the U.S. and rank their merits tailored towards our client's corporate objectives. The methods and procedures are designed to integrate historical public domain information with traditional geological methods to generate exploration strategies.

Internationally we continue to complete exploration venture analysis on behalf of our clients ranging from "where should I be?" to bid analysis and classic geological evaluation.

Typical Projects

We completed the assembly of a database of exploration trends and supporting data for a newly formed U.S. subsidiary of a large Australian oil company covering the major part of the Permian Basin.

We evaluated the exploration portfolio of an independent oil company with the objective of balancing expenditures with risk and reward within the context of the available exploration budget.

Based on our client's corporate guidelines, we completed a comparative analysis of five different exploration plays to permit optimum allocation of funds and develop an approach for adaption by the company for future play ranking.

We appraised the potential for exploration and development drilling in the State of Mississippi for a subsidiary of a major West Coast utility.

We have conducted numerous studies directed at quantifying reserves growth potential in mature fields. Such studies have varied from statistical approaches through to detailed geologic and engineering analysis of multiple reservoirs, quantifying bypassed primary reserves, recovery enhancement, and secondary/tertiary potential.

In support of litigation, Scotia completed extensive exploration analysis of a number of permits located in Papua New Guinea.
